Glamorous 1940’s Cartier diamond bracelet.

To me, this bracelet is the epitome of glamor. Not Fergie’s fancy car kind of g-l-a-m-o-r-o-u-s but the languid, curvaceous, old-school glamor, the kind with perfectly coiffed hair that purses its scarlet lips at you while maintaining an air of mystery. The kind of glamour that could unselfconsciously wear a feather boa.

This will not shock you if you read either the title of this entry, or the hyperbole above: this is by Cartier.

Cartier created this beauty in the 1940’s. It centers a cushion-cut diamond, with two concentric old mine and old European-cut diamond hexagonal-shaped surrounds. On either side of the center diamond, the bracelet continues with four graduated, overlapping open hexagonal old European-cut diamond links, each segment set with an old European-cut diamond ‘Lily of the Valley’ motif. These are enclosed by a border spaced by collet-set diamonds, all set in platinum. It is accompanied by a Cartier case and certificate of authenticity, numbered NY2008-5, circa 1940.

Gold, Blackened Silver, Diamond and Pearl Bracelet by JAR, Paris.

This bracelet is gorgeous, edgy, and innovative.

That thick plaque of diamonds in with the chunky drops hanging off the end is the perfect foil to the delicate white strands of pearls – hard and soft, delicate and heavy, classic and punk.

This remarkable piece is also the work of the renowned JAR Paris.  (By the way, do those earrings look familiar? We talked about them in April.) My post on the earrings contains background, if you’d like a refresher on JAR.

The bracelet itself is four strands of cultured pearls: totaling 68 cultured pearls measuring approximately 8.9 to 8.6 mm.

The spectacular clasp that you’re probably staring at is blackened silver – a favorite of JAR’s – reverse- set with with 30 round diamonds (approximately 9.00 carats total). The “reverse” setting means than instead of seeing the part of the diamond you’re used to seeing, we see the bottom, which sticks up like a spike. It’s an extremely cool effect.

In addition to the 30 reverse-set larger diamonds, the is sprinkled with smaller single-cut diamonds and suspends three diamond pavé-set drop-shaped beads. The bracelet is 7 inches long and is signed JAR Paris.

Wide sapphire and diamond bracelet.

This bracelet looks like a carpet made of sapphires and diamonds. A mini carpet that I want to put on my wrist.

Not too shabby, eh? This bracelet is designed as a wide band of oval sapphires, pear-shaped and brilliant-cut diamonds. It’s fully articulated for movement, so it should drape languidly around the wrist. How glamorous.

The design here reminds me somewhat of this fabulous bracelet. I don’t think there could ever be too many bracelets of this style in the world, especially if they’re all this colorful. Bring ’em on.
