Ring roundup: contemporary diamond rings.

My love for antique jewelry is well established, but I want to be sure I don’t ignore the plethora of beautiful contemporary diamond rings that the world has to offer.

Twist Shank Diamond Engagement Ring by Michael M.

A very high profile – I’d be worried it would always be getting snagged on things in my purse – but it’s so pretty it’s probably worth it. I know that halos are very big right now, but I think this kind of design can encompass the same ornate feel in a more unique way. Not that I don’t like halos, but there’s something to be said for variety. This versatile setting can hold almost any cut of diamond.

This beauty is pretty straightforward, but in a glorious way. It features a  2.49 carat cushion cut diamond (color and clarity of H/SI1) within a halo of small white diamonds. Please note how the shoulders taper slightly as they move inwards – I think that’s a really lovely detail. It lends a sense of delicacy and elegance to the ring.

Don’t you love a split shank? I do. I think it gives a ring such a feeling of delicacy and elegance. This setting, by Coast Diamonds, has pave all along the split shank and a six-prong head that can hold almost kind of diamond (shown here with a round brilliant cut stone).

De Beers Adonis Rose pink gold engagement ring.
De Beers Adonis Rose Pink Gold ring with bezel-set marquise diamonds, pavé round brilliants and a claw-set center solitaire. This one’s a little different and it wouldn’t be right for everyone – but I suspect that the people this is right for would utterly flip out over it.

Petite tapered baguette pave diamond engagement ring.
This contemporary diamond ring is a bit different from the others – even the website description calls it “petite.” A dainty, well-balanced and extremely lovely setting. I believe this one would look as beautiful with a smaller diamond as with a larger one. The center stone is flanked by two tapered diamond baguettes, which lead to round brilliant cut diamonds and millegraining along the shank. Subtle and enchanting.

Isn’t this one lovely? So lyrical and delicate, with the gently twisting band of pave. It’s also by Michael M, and is shown here with a round brilliant cut center stone, although the website says that it can be set with almost any diamond shape.

Vintage diamond filigree engagement ring.

This is just the prettiest little engagement ring I ever did see.

I don’t normally go for gold engagement rings, but the lacy filigree and mixed-metal loveliness of this one charms me right down to my boots.

This ring is listed as “vintage” but not dated any more specifically than that. It’s made of  platinum over 14 karat yellow gold. A .25 carat European cut diamond is bead set into a hexagonal head on top of a spectacular yellow gold filigree mounting.

The filigree, as you can see, continues all around the ring and then phases into fluted engraving on the shank.

Ring roundup: emerald-cut diamond rings.

We’re now going to look at emerald-cut diamond rings. I am a fan of these, although they’re not at the tippy-top of my list for what I picture on my own ring finger. They’re classic and elegant. Let’s take a look.

This 4.00 carat emerald-cut diamond ring is very classic in style – it’s not particularly unique in design, but it is exceptional in size and quality. The center diamond is G color – SI1 clarity and is presented in a finely millegrained platinum ring that is completely outlined by eighty-eight sparkling round brilliant-cut diamonds.

This Tacori channel-set and pave diamond engagement ring is sleek and sophisticated. The ring centers and emerald-cut diamond and has a fabulous band: the outside of the band is channel-set with square emerald cut diamonds. The sides of the band are also adorned – they’re set with round brilliant cut stones and patterned:

The ring comes with the band design to halfway (as pictured) or going all the way around.

Sylvie collection's Style #SY289 double halo, split-shank engagement ring with emerald-cut center stone

This is Sylvie collection’s Style #SY289. A big rock in a sparkly double halo with a split shank. Pretty and on trend, with a sparkle of uniqueness from the split shank. I do love a split shank.

1950's 3.18 carat emerald-cut diamond engagement ring with baguette diamond embellishment.

This ring is a doozy – a bright, beautiful 3.18 carat emerald-cut diamond centers this ring, but it doesn’t stop there. It’s flanked on either side by two rows of shimmering baguette diamonds. This ring is estate, circa 1950’s.
