The second annual NYC Jewelry week kicks off this coming Monday, November 19th and will bring nearly 200 thrilling jewelry-related events to the Big Apple through the 24th! Get out your calendars, NYC-based jewelry lovers.
Here’s NYC Jewelry Week (NYCJW) Co-Founder Bella Neyman on the event’s inspiration:
“For over 100,000 years, from the bejeweled clavicle of Cleopatra to the thrifted brooch on a teen’s jacket, humans have adorned themselves to express their power and individuality. Today, the jewelry industry employs millions worldwide, but our mission is to establish New York City as the center of the jewelry universe and present all that the world’s oldest art form has to offer.”
NYCJW launched in 2018 and is back for 2019 in a big way, with a renewed focus on sustainability and diversity in the jewelry industry. NYC Jewelry Week 2019 will offer more than 170 panels, events, and exhibitions around NYC, most of which are completely free and open to the public.
Co-Founder JB Jones on NYCJW19’s expanded focus:
“This year we are proud to say that NYCJW has an added function as a platform for change. We are addressing topics that are vital for the industry to be able to grow with the changing times and become more ingrained in the culture of New York City and the world as a whole. To this point, we are excited to present new projects created by NYCJW for both the community of consumers and the jewelers in the realms of sustainability, responsibility, ethics, and diversity.”
You absolutely must look at the NYCJW website to get the full rundown of NYCJW events. I tried to scroll through and pick out my top NYCJW recommendations, but all that happened was that I opened soooo many tabs from their website that I got fully overwhelmed and had to close them all. Twice.
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend any of these incredible events in person this year, but maybe you can go for me and tell me all about it? Thanks.
The jewels above are by David Webb, Marta Mattson, Maria Lalaounis, Cartier, and Mauboussin and will be featured at the following NYCJW events: Be Dazzled – The Exceptional Jewels of 1stdibs (which is one of the few events that does require an RSVP), Finding Dodo, and Rings: 1957 – 2019, Legends and Tales from Athens to New York.
Please visit NYC Jewelry Week’s website and/or Instagram for more information. It’s next week, so don’t wait!
