This ring is simply spectacular. A huge, deep purple amethyst set in a gold ring of diamond-centered flowers. It’s Victorian, circa 1880. Definitely a design that stands up to the test of time.
Fourtane doesn’t give a carat count for that amethyst, but it looks like a serious Ring Pop of a jewel to me. A cocktail ring extraordinaire.

So I’ll tell you up front: this ring is ridiculous. I love it, but if I ever have enough money that I can buy absurd things like this, I hope I’m spending money on a lot of less stupid things too.
The jewels in this Duckie ring by Chopard are as serious as the shape is silly. The ring is made of 18k yellow and is covered with stones: yellow diamonds (10.96 carats), amethysts, Paraiba tourmalines (2.30 carats), blue and orange sapphires, topazes (15.09 carats), lazulites (1.14 carats), and blue cabochon sapphires.
I’m assuming this song was written about this ring. Or maybe the song inspired the ring. Either way, I’ve decided they must be related. I hope everyone at Chopard was singing it as they made this ring. By now I’m assuming you know what it’s going to look like. And you’re correct:
Chopard made a rubber duckie ring. Why? The world may never know.

The Cartier panther is a well-known motif. You may be picturing the famous and magnificent articulated panther bracelet once owned by the Duchess of Windsor; one of the most famous Cartier panther pieces.
What wins me over about the Cartier panther are the details and the delicacy. Animal jewelery can be cheesey, but the Cartier panther usually isn’t. The panther itself is sometimes rendered in precious gems, or sometimes in gold or silver with jeweled eyes and an onyx nose. The delicate planes of the face and the sleek lines of the body make it worth looking at for its own sake, not just because it’s rendered as some fabulous piece of jewelery.

There were two more Cartier panther rings in this auction, but I’m not a fan. I like the panthers, but the rings are too heavy and industrial for me.
