Like all artists, a jewelry designers’ aesthetic evolves over time, and there’s a unique beauty in the progression of an artist’s designs. Witnessing that growth as part of a larger whole adds context and additional meaning to every piece in the body of work.
Loriann Friedman of Loriann Jewelry is someone I clicked with the moment we met. Her designs are a blend of passion, artistic vision, and thoughtfulness that results in compelling jewels that elicit deep feelings of connection in a wide range of jewelry lovers.
Today it is my great honor to become the very first blogger to feature all FOUR of Loriann Jewelry‘s gorgeous new collections!
This quartet of interconnected but individual collections is the result of many months of soul searching and growth on the designer’s part, the distilled and powerful artistic result of a period of time that brought both the birth of designer Lori’s first grandchild and the loss of her beloved father.
I photographed Loriann Jewelry’s new collections in a garden, among the vivid yellow buds of the emerging forsythia, the pale remnants of a February snow and and even underneath the sparkling droplets of a gentle rain.
It felt right to show these pieces in the gentle chaos of the world’s yearly rebirth, captured in the moment between winter and spring.
In the designer’s own words:
My intention as a designer is to create jewelry that is elegant, heartfelt and intended to empower and inspire. The messages are positive, personal and profound. The core themes of these collections are based on strength, love, harmony, balance and infinite possibilities. Each collection and its theme expresses a specific intention and are interconnected and relate to one another.”
These particular earrings are from the Loriann Jewelry’s Moderne collection, a modern take on Art Deco style. I’m a sucker for these clean, perfect angles.
Lapis and diamonds in gold was the original colorway of Loriann Jewelry’s Moderne Collection, but the Moderne has since been expanded to offer opal and rainbow sapphire designs as well, which I love.
Something about the crisp triangles and precisely created negative space feels perfectly aligned to help one channel one’s personal power.
Moderne is the largest of the newer collections – some of its designs were released prior to this launch and I actually gave you a little sneak peek in my Jewelry Showcase post!
Here’s a pendant from the Loriann Jewelry Unity Collection, which is characterized by circle motifs centering opals and featuring rainbow sapphires and delicate white enamel.
The Unity collection symbolizes a division of shapes that come together to create a sense of oneness. According to Lori, the central opal in the Unity pieces is the unifier, the representation of the love that connects us to each other and creates a feeling of oneness.
A strong and beautiful design with a poignant message.
These two rings are also from Loriann Jewelry’s Unity Collection. The side view here really gives you an idea of how harmoniously these disparate different design elements come together.
How incredible are those opals? Each one has its own distinct personality, interacts with that rainbow of the stones in its own way. You can tell these gems were selected with care.
You already had a peek at the Galaxy collection up top, with that stunning opal, enamel, and diamond ring in the first photo! I’m a little obsessed with the Galaxy’s collection’s color scheme…the iridescent stones, delicate blue enamel, and bright diamonds are ethereal bliss.
The Galaxy collection has more going on than just pretty colors, though. Here’s Lori on Galaxy’s inspiration:
There’s something magical and mystical about the universe. A similar feeling was first inspired through music which has always played a big part in my life from an early age. My cousin, a professional opera singer, my grandfather who played the Jewish harp and my aunt, a piano player laid the ground work for something that became far more meaningful.  Some of my favorite artists like Stevie Nicks and Sarah Brightman exemplify this magic and mysticism.”
Let’s look at the Galaxy pendant, too:
The ethereal Galaxy pendant – like the Galaxy earrings – feature labradorite rather than opal, so they’re not identical to the ring, but they’ve got that same mesmerizing geometry, irresistible iridescence and peaceful space princess vibe.
This is the Wings of Love design from the Harmony collection. Lori designed this particular symbol in honor of late father, who she recently lost.
Simple geometry with tiny, perfect gemstone accents make these golden beauties exceptionally versatile as well as powerfully meaningful.
More perfectly balanced, minimalist magic from the Harmony Collection. Here’s a bit more about the inspiration behind Harmony:
The simplicity of balanced shapes that symbolize a sense of being whole and complete… a sense of harmony. […]
My 104 year old grandmother is a testament to living a life that is well balanced. She has tremendous inner strength and is mindful each day. She worked very hard, but managed to balance her day with other things that were meaningful to her. We all need to take time each day to reflect what’s important and this collection serves as a reminder of this.”
Family, love, balance, strength of spirit – these things are what life’s truly about, and it’s no surprise that jewels with such vital, elemental inspiration would have such powerful resonance.
What do you think of Loriann Jewelry’s new collections, my dears? Which pieces are striking your fancy?
