Lulu and Shay is a fairly new brand that’s been on my radar for the past year or so – and I like what I’ve seen!
Designer Leeorah Betan-Hartman’s work has a bit of a vintage vibe, especially the pieces that carry a message of love. Lulu and Shay does romance in a way that reminds me of Victorian era love tokens and MidCentury charms.
We’re going to look at a three examples of Lulu and Shay’s designs today! Each one of these would make a FANTASTIC Valentine’s day present, btw. February 14th is just around the corner.
Kicking things off with the Lulu and Shay fan pendant! An adorable, delightfully kinetic piece that is articulated to move like a real fan.
This is a technique I’ve seen a few times in vintage charms, but never in a contemporary design. It’s flirty and fun and would make such a creative gift to a loved one (think outside the box of a heart-shaped pendant!).
I have a particular weakness for this piece because I inherited a pendant from my aunt that is the same kind of style – a fan that moves. Mine is vintage, from the 1970’s I believe, and has scenes on it rather than a secret romantic message.
Here we have the Dream disc swivel ring. This Lulu and Shay design uses the concept of gem acrostics, which my fellow fans of Victorian and Georgian era jewelry will recognize. The letter of the name of each gem spells out a secret message! In this case it’s DREAM: (D)iamond, (R)uby, (E)merald, (A)methyst, (M)oonstone.
What’s unique about this ring that I’ve never seen in antique jewelry – or anywhere else, for that matter – is that each gem is set on a swiveling disc of gold that can be rotated to show a letter instead. Such a creative, interactive, interesting take on the traditional acrostic jewel.
This ring comes in a number of other word designs (LOVED, ADORE, HAPPY, FAITH, PEACE, GRACE) and can also be custom made to the word or name of your choice. How cool is that?
And finally we have the Lulu and Shay Garden necklace! I think this is the first piece of Lulu and Shay jewelry that ever caught my eye.
This piece is so perfectly pretty. Who doesn’t want to wear a delicate garland that encapsulates the spirit of a secret garden in dainty yellow gold with diamonds?
Let me know what you think about these lovely designs! Which one is your favorite? What word would you want on your acrostic ring? You can see more on the Lulu and Shay website.

I would like “darling” although that might be too long. My friend suggested “wonderful” for me – he is so sweet!
Becky says
Aww I love both of those suggestions!! It’s true that they miiiigght be a little long on a ring, though.
