I am writing to you today, my darlings, to tell you about something that will change your jewelry-wearing life: the world’s most perfect earring back.
I know that an earring back may not sound life changing, but hear me out. Chrysmela is precision engineered using the technology found in smartphones and high end watches to LOCK onto the post of your earrings. The earring back’s micro ball bearings act as a safety net that will grab onto the post of your earring and refuse to let it fall out: it can withstand up to 17 lbs of pressure.
Do you remember the first time you lost an earring? I do: the earrings were bright green flowers with purple centers, a pair that I’d bought for myself at The Limited Too with my own money. It fell out of my ear when I was running down the street to catch the ice cream trunk. I never found it. I was devastated.
Chrysmela’s guiding principle is “Fashion Freedom: the ability to wear your good earrings whenever you want, without fear that you’ll lose them. I am all about this. Jewelry is to be enjoyed, and I’m a big fan of anything that it makes it easier to do that safely and successfully. In our post-COVID world, many of us are pulling mask straps on and off of our ears several times a day: a risky activity when you’re wearing earrings that could easily be caught and yanked out of place.
The mechanism is made of hypoallergenic surgical steel and comes housed in gold or platinum. This is a seriously well made product.
I was a little worried the first time I tried the Chrysmela catch that it would be hard to navigate the locking mechanism while the earring backs were on my ears, but it’s easy. You just have to twist the backs in a particular way and they release. I recommend practicing a few times in your hand before you actually put Chrysmela on an earring that’s in your ear, but once you get the hang of it, it’s easy peasy.
Earring security is the main point of Chrysmela, but it also has another feature with a more immediate effect: because the Chrysmela catch locks onto the back of your earring, it can actually support them against your ear lobe in a way that keeps the earring from drooping forward. Earrings that droop are a huge pet peeve of mine. This works best with the Chrysmela Extra, which has a silicone disc for extra support.
I hate when I put on a spectacular earring and then look in the mirror to see it leaning flaccidly forward. I’ve tried a number of things to try to fix it, including little foam discs and stickers that you put behind your ear, and none of those solutions worked particularly well. But this truly fixes it.
It’s worth mentioning that the Chrysmela catch was invented by a woman and is a women-run brand. You know I love that.
Chrysmela was kind enough to send me their product to try out for free, but this isn’t a sponsored post. I’m legitimately obsessed with this earring back. I move mine from pair to pair to pair of earrings so that they can always be on my ears. I’ve given a pair to my mom. I’ve given a pair to my sister. I love them wholeheartedly and I bet you would love them too.
You can buy the Chrysmela Catch on the Chrysmela website or through Amazon.
All photos c/o Chrysmela. Chrysmela was kind enough to gift me a pair of their earring backs to try, but my opinion remains my own. This post contains an affiliate link.
