This book is well-written and creative. Most of the characters are interesting, some more so than others. The real world and the supernatural world intersect, hijinks ensue. There are ghosts, gods, old ladies with mystical knowledge, and karaoke performances. It was fun.
That said…I didn’t love it. I couldn’t tell you precisely why, but it fell short of great. I liked it, but I won’t be rereading it or buying it. It’s just not one of Neil Gaiman’s best.
However, “not one of Neil Gaiman’s best” is still way better than a lot of other books. If you like the idea of reading a book with Anansi’s children as central characters (especially if you’ve met them before in American Gods) you should give it a go. It’s definitely not a waste of time, it just didn’t rock my world.
