Conch pearl, cultured pearl, and diamond brooch.

A lot of the time I feel like I need to have several brooches in the same post in order to make them interesting enough to put on the blog. That’s not the case with this one.

Stunning, yes?

This brooch, made of silver-topped gold, is designed with a folate motif of leaves and acorns. Each acorn is set with a pearl: one conch pearl (approximately 12.7 by 13.5 by 11.2 mm), one baroque cultured pearl of silver hue (approximately 26.6 by 17.7 by 14.7 mm), and one baroque cultured pearl of dark gray hue (approximately 23.3 by 15.6 by 10.0 mm).

The leaves – which I can’t stop looking at – are silver-topped gold of openwork design,and are set throughout with old mine and rose-cut diamonds totaling approximately 8.00 carats.

This beauty was listed in Sotheby’s December 2012 Magnificent Jewels from the Collection of Mrs. Charles Wrightsman auction. All images and info are thanks to Sotheby’s.

I’m not sure if we’ve talked about conch pearls yet, but here’s a hint: I love them. Oh yeah, and they’re pink.

This is one of the most beautiful conch pearl necklaces I’ve ever come across.

It is designed with a semi-articulated scrolling openwork frontispiece, set with round brilliant and marquise-cut diamonds. Interspersed throughout the openwork are seventeen oval-shaped conch pearls. The frontspeice is suspended from an articulated undulating diamond-set link backchain, mounted in platinum. Total diamond weight of this necklace: 14.0 carats.

Kunzite, conch pearl, gem-set, and diamond peacock brooch/pendant.

This pendant/brooch was listed in Sotheby’s 09 October 2012 Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite sale. It is totally nuts. Like Lisa Frank grew up and developed more expensive tastes.

Kunzite, conch pearl, gem-set, and diamond peacock brooch pendant. The center kunzite is 46.10; plus 8.40 carats of tsavorite garnets, sapphires, and pink sapphires; and 1.20 carats of diamonds.

It also packs a serious jewel-punch: the center kunzite is 46.10; the body is set with 8.40 carats of pear-shaped and circular-cut tsavorite garnets, sapphires, and pink sapphires; as well as 1.20 carats of diamonds. The brooch dangles a gorgeous conch pearl, and the peacock’s eye is a spinel. The gems are set in blackened gold, which makes for a really lovely contrast to all of the bright colors. I think the darkness of the gold is what saves this piece from being hideous. It’s still entirely wacko, but beautifully so.
