Gold and diamond demi-parure, Van Cleef and Arpels.

The fashion of the 80’s gets kind of a bad rap from history. But it definitely wasn’t all bad.

This gorgeous gold and diamond demi-parure was made by Van Cleef and Arpels in 1985. It comprises a necklace of lattice design, set with pear-shaped and brilliant-cut diamonds. Isn’t it fabulous? I love the color contrast of the gold and the diamonds. Wait until you see the design of the necklace:

Isn’t it fabulous? I love the effect created by the lattice behind the graduated stones; it looks like an explosion.

This 1980’s gold and diamond demi-parure by Van Cleef and Arpels was listed in Sotheby’s  November 2012 Magnificent Jewels sale.

Retro ruby and diamond tassel bracelet by Sterlé.

This tassel bracelet by Sterlé dates to the 1950’s, but I think the style’s very relevant today.

Can’t you see it stacked in an arm party on the wrist of a fashion blogger? I think it’s just gorgeous; really exceptionally in textural details and overall shape. It looks marvelous to touch.

This retro piece is designed as a cord of rope-work linking which terminates with two open work spherical pendants accented with circular-cut rubies and diamonds respectively. Each sphere dangles a fringe of gold tassels. The bracelet bears French assay and maker’s marks and is signed Paris Le Caire Pohoomull.

Really I’d prefer see it stacked on my own arm. I did recently break a bracelet by playing with the magnetic clasp too much, so this beauty may be too much like a toy to be trusted on me anyway. It does make me think of this glorious Art Deco tassel bracelet – which really is nothing at all like this one save the tassel. Both fabulous, but very different.

Gem set and diamond bangle and ring, Cannilla, Masenza.

This one’s really strange, I’ll tell you that up front.

I don’t know if I’d ever wear it, but I like to look at it and I’m really happy that it exists.

Bangle by Cannilla, Masenza. Made of gold and designed with two ladies' heads. Each head is set with carved emeralds, sapphires and diamonds. Accompanied by a matching ring.The hinged bangle is made of gold and designed with two ladies’ heads as the terminals. Each head is set with carved emeralds, circular-cut sapphires and brilliant-cut diamonds. The ring is accompanied by a ring, similarly set.

How amazing are those baguette diamond eyes? Such a cool design choice, when it would have been so easy to do something more traditionally round instead.

I’m not sure who would wear this set, but I am sure I’d like to be friends with her.
