Can you decode the imagery on this antique locket?

I saw some truly spectacular pieces of jewelry at the Original Miami Antique Show. I’m still deep into editing the many, many photos I took….and I look forward to sharing those treasures with you soon.

One of those pieces was a locket – a locket so fantastic and utterly, utterly, odd – that I just couldn’t wait any longer to show it to you.

My favorite part of this locket is the mystery that it represents. This portrait is so very strange that nobody – not the jewelry store who owns it, not me, not any of the other collectors who have looked at it – can figure out what the heck it means. This kind of design from this era was certainly intended to reference or represent something specific, but it remains a enigma for now.

Good morning, darlings!

I know I just got back from the AGTA GemFair, but I’m jetting off again – to Miami this time, for the legendary Original Miami (Beach) Antique Show.*

When I come back, I’ll have my fully edited recap of the AGTA GemFair‘s glories ready for you, and shortly after that I’ll have the results of my Miami treasure hunting to share with you as well! I’m having a very busy, extremely sparkling February.

A rare and exquisite portrait bracelet with family portraits. Dedicated to a wife from her husband for their wedding anniversary in 1864. Spotted at OMBAS 2016.

Now, for my favorite question:

Is there anything you particularly want to see from the Original Miami (Beach) Antique Show??? Are any of you on the hunt for a particular piece, or is there something you’d especially like to ogle?

Vintage gold lockets under $150.

I’ve been seeing vintage-style gold lockets popping up for sale in mid-range fashion lines recently. I totally get it, they’re lovely and romantic. I certainty have nothing against a nice vintage-inspired piece, but I generally think it’s more fun to go authentic when it’s doable.

Without further ado, here are some gorgeous vintage gold lockets currently for sale on the bling-ey internet.

Antique Victorian or Edwardian gold locket with scrolling bail and embossed front (I adore this one).

Vintage gold locket from the 1950’s or 60’s with a rhinestone star design.

Another starry beauty: this antique gold locket has a more complex star-like pattern that I find it hard to look away from. It’s older, Victorian or Edwardian.

Early 1900s square locket necklace with engraving and “WW” monogram.

The floral design on this Victorian locket is gorgeous. I also love the flowing monogram on the back. (This one is the reason I upped the price on this post to $150.)

Embossed Edwardian locket from the early 1900’s – how much do you love the shape of this one?

Just to be clear: at this price range, the pieces aren’t going to be solid gold. They’re all goldtone; gold-filled, gold-plated, or made of other gold colored materials. Still lovely!
