When I think of Harry Winston, I think of giant, ring-pop sized rings or spectacularly long chandelier earrings dripping with diamonds.
Those are nice thoughts and I enjoy them. But Winston also makes some spectacular smaller pieces (“smaller” being a relative term here) that are definitely worth a gander.
Take, for example, these black opal and diamond earrings.
If your heart didn’t skip a beat we probably aren’t friends. The colors!!
These earrings are centered by two black opals measuring approximately 10.8 by 8.8 mm and 10.5 by 8.7 mm. The opals are cradled within ribbon-scroll surrounds set with round diamonds weighing approximately 3.60 carats. As I said, “smaller” is a relative term. These earrings are impressive by any standards, despite their lack of cascading diamonds.
I promised you two pairs of Harry Winston earrings and I will deliver.
Aren’t these gorgeous? The clarity of the emeralds, the asymmetry of the diamonds, the contrast of the gold against the clear diamonds and radiant emeralds. They radiate Elizabeth Taylor-ishnesss, which I obviously mean as a huge compliment. Sigh. She and I should have been friends.
These beauties are centered by two emerald-cut emeralds, framed by round, pear and marquise-shaped diamonds weighing approximately 7.75 carats.
Both of these exceptional pairs of earrings were listed in the Sotheby’s December 2012 Magnificent Jewels sale. All images and info are thanks to Sotheby’s.
