This wonderful, whimsical flamingo brooch is by Carvin French. It’s designed as two pavé-set pink diamond flamingos, extending marquise-cut pink diamond wings, with faceted black diamond beaks and cabochon ruby eyes. The mamma and baby flamingos are standing on calibré-cut demaintoid garnet grass, mounted in 18k white gold. Each flamingo detaches and may be worn separately.

If I wore this flamingo brooch to a party, I would show up with the flamingos attached. Then I would detach them while in the powder room and reattach them in different places on my outfit. Then I would repeatedly rearrange them (while out of sight, of course; it has to be a surprise) until it ceased to be amusing.

I repeat: Heeheee. So fabulous.

Art Deco ruby and diamond bracelet.

This Art Deco diamond and ruby bracelet was made in 1930. Running along the center of the bracelet is an openwork band of oval-shaped cabochon rubies, framed by a single and baguette-cut diamond band trimmed with cabochon rubies. The bracelet closes with a single and baguette-cut diamond clasp, mounted in platinum.

I love that this bracelet uses cabochon rubies instead of a more angular cut – I think the texture is really interesting and unusual. I’d love to see how the stones pick up light when this piece is out and about on a lucky wrist.This bracelet was sold as part of Christie’s October 21, 2009 Rare Jewels sale. 19th century gem and diamond cluster necklace.

This necklace is awesome. Like get-outta-town, shut-the-front-door awesome. You are forewarned.

19th century gem and diamond necklace with rubies, garnets, white sapphires, aquamarines, yellow zircons, pink topaz, peridot, tourmaline, and orange topaz.

This extraordinarily fabulous necklace was made in 1880. It looks a little like the jeweler did drugs while designing it, but I mean that in the best possible way. It’s exuberantly cheerful.

The necklace consists of  a series of cushion cut stones in openwork floral shaped double diamond borders, with smaller five petal flowerhead motifs in between. The smaller flowerheads each have a ruby center and diamonds on each petal. This chain suspends a pendant of similar design with one large garnet and a number of small diamonds.
