This ornate sapphire and diamond ring by Chantecler is really fabulous. I just love the diamond details on the sides and oh my, that sapphire is breathtaking.

A sapphire and diamond ring by Chantecler
Set with a cushion-cut sapphire, weighing 36.83 carats, to a single-cut diamond-set gallery with pierced foliate detailing, between collet-set baguette-cut diamond-set shoulders, mounted in platinum, the diamonds estimated to weigh approximately 3.00 carats in total, maker’s case, ring size 5¼ (with sizing bar).

Art Deco opal and diamond ring by J. E. Caldwell.

It never surprises me when I find an Art Deco piece that I particularly love and it turns out it by J.E. Caldwell. This Art Deco opal and diamond ring is no exception.

This features a black opal set in platinum and surrounded by diamonds. It was made in 1925, by J.E. Caldwell. The black opal is beautiful on its own, but the carefully shaped diamond setting really makes it shine. Diamonds and opals are always a great combination, but the way these diamonds are set in the ridged silver frame at specific intervals provides a geometric visual interest here that many contemporary opal and diamond rings lack.

Don’t you love how the diamonds in the setting pick up the bright colors in the opal? This one must be truly wonderful in sunshine. Let’s cross our fingers that one of us gets to see it in person one day.

Luscious Art Deco diamond and sapphire ring.

Hello, gorgeous.

This Art Deco diamond and sapphire ring is a little unusual (in my opinion, anyway) for 1920 Art Deco because its lines are curved. You see a lot of sharp edges and hard angles in Deco jewelery, but this ring is positively voluptuous. I think it’s marvelous. And how boldly fabulous, with that 4.5 ct center diamond and the contrast of the diamonds and sapphires framing it. This ring belongs on a hand that is holding champagne.

You’re going to see a lot of Art Deco pieces on this blog. It’s my favorite era for jewelry – that, and Edwardian.
