I’ve already had to restrain myself several times from creating a label for certain posts that goes along the lines of “really really REALLY amazing” or “extra super beautiful FOR REAL.” I have restrained myself because it sounds silly and I would use it too often. But I seriously considered it for this carved emerald and sapphire brooch by Cartier.
That, my dears, is an enormous carved emerald.
This amazing brooch was made by Cartier, New York, in 1920. The large octagonal emerald is carved to depict a Mughal flower motif. It is framed by channel-set calibré-cut sapphires, accented at four sides with clusters of cabochon sapphires outlined by calibré-cut emeralds and sapphires. Such a carved emerald is extremely rare and valuable.
This carved emerald and sapphire brooch by Cartier was sold as part of Sotheby’s April 2012 Magnificent Jewels auction. All images and info are thanks to Sotheby’s.
